DISHCLOTH

Cast on 42 stitches (using crochet cast on if you would like it to match the bind off edge).
Knit 6 rows garter stitch.

DIAGONAL SEED PATTERN
Row 1 (RS): K8, *p1, k5; rep from * to last 4 sts, p1, k3.
Row 2 (WS): K3, p1, *k1, p5; rep from * to last 8 sts, k1, p4, k3.
Row 3: K6, *p1, k5; rep from * to last 6 sts, p1, k5.
Row 4: K3, p3, *k1, p5; rep from * to last 6 sts, k1, p2, k3.
Row 5: K4, *p1, k5; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 6: K3, *p5, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Repeat rows 1-6 for desired length.

Then knit 6 rows garter stitch.
Bind off.
